OAKLAND, CA (CelebrityAccess) — Oakland Singer Songwriter Dave Deporis, 40, was killed while chasing a thief who allegedly stole a laptop holding the results of a recording session in an Oakland studio.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Deporis gave pursuit after the alleged thief snatched Deporis's laptop from a cafe table shortly after noon. Deporis gave chase and grabbed on to the doorhandle of a red Audi sport utility vehicle the robber was using to escape, and was dragged a short distance before falling under the vehicle's tires.
Deporis was pronounced dead at a local hospital and police are reportedly searching for a suspect, the Chronicle said.
Deporis was well-regarded in the region's music scene and his death brought an outpouring of condolences from his colleagues.
