During his Glasgow show, Scottish comedian Kevin Bridges faced backlash for making a joke about the Queen’s death, stating that ‘she won’t be the only old woman to die this winter’.
As part of The Overdue Catchup tour, the 35-year-old comic from Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire, delivered the controversial comments at the Hydro in Glasgow.
He humorously referred to it as ‘the only show to go ahead this evening’, and even made a quip about wearing a black suit in tribute. He also mentioned the possibility of another lockdown.
Some users criticized Bridges, with one describing his show opening as the ‘end of his career’.
He began by addressing the audience and jokingly referenced potential media coverage, stating, ‘This is the 40th time that I have performed at this venue so I’m sure you’ll read about it in all the papers in the morning, on the front page of the Daily Telegraph.’
He also made light of the situation by saying, ‘Anyway welcome to the only f*****g show in Britain going ahead this evening,’ which elicited cheering and applause from the crowd.
Further adding humor, Bridges mentioned the timing of the doors opening and teasingly remarked, ‘The doors were open at 6.30pm and she hung on, it’s what she would have wanted, so welcome.’
He continued to entertain the audience by making a comment about wearing a black suit as a tribute, and humorously speculated about the likelihood of a return to lockdown.
Thereafter, he playfully commented on the audience’s concerns about work the following day before making the controversial statement, ‘The show is going ahead, she’s not going to be the only old woman to die this winter.’
He also made a lighthearted comment about King Charles being ‘a wee dog’, which was met with laughter.
I’m not playing along with the hypocrisy & the sycophantic establishment games.

Reactions to Bridges’ jokes flooded social media, with one person expressing, ‘You may not like the monarchy but have a bit of respect incredible.’
Another individual, in response, stated, ‘I did like him, not anymore, I’m not a royalist like many. Died in her favourite place – Scotland and still was working up to her death at 96.’
Other reactions came with succinct remarks such as ‘Career wounder’, and ‘Oh Kevin, what have you done for… silly boy, you will regret this.’
Twitter users voiced their outrage over Bridges’ performance, with one writing, ‘Kevin Bridges in Glasgow last night scraping the bottom of the barrel. Not only did the show go ahead, he thinks it’s funny that the queen died yesterday.’
Another tweet read, ‘True colours well and truly shown. P***k.’ And yet another comment criticized his behavior as, ‘Showing himself up to what he really is. Hope this clip makes the national news and his career goes down the pan.’
