Yes, not shaving off the mustache was kind of odd, but I thought it went in keeping with the Joker's bizarre behavior. Looking at it in that context, it seemed to fit. Anyway, he was wonderful as the Joker. It was probably his greatest role. MeTv was showing "Batman" on Saturday nights and it was fun to watch him gamboling as the Joker. But they dropped "Batman" from the schedule. Damn their hides, "Batman" was one of the best retro tv shows on that network. Now they show some shitty old sci-fi tv series in its place.
